Jamii has an established operational presence in Ethiopia and has recently strengthened its engagement with community-based saving groups. The regulatory and social environment for digital financial inclusion is considered conducive, supported by Jamii's existing networks and experience in the region. This project will enhance the digital inclusion of funeral savings groups (Iddirs) across Ethiopia, linking them to essential services including telemedicine and life insurance.

Objective 1 — Strengthen digital inclusion

By promoting the use of the Jamii platform instead of traditional paper ledgers, the project aims to enhance the digital literacy of funeral savings group (Iddir) members in Ethiopia. This will support their digital inclusion and sustained connectivity to their communities, enabling linkage to life-improving services.

Objective 2 — Build financial literacy and insurance readiness

By strengthening financial literacy and understanding of how insurance contributes to household resilience, the project aims to enable group members to access aTordable life insurance products that help protect livelihoods when a primary income-earner passes away.

Objective 3 — Test the value of improved healthcare access

By facilitating linkage to telemedicine services, the project will evaluate the impact of improved access to basic healthcare consultations on Iddir members and their households.

Objective 4 — Learning and Dissemination

By evaluating the results achieved, the project will produce insights that inform decisions on future scaling, as well as contributions to sector-wide learning through publication on the Digital Savings Group Hub and other relevant platforms.
