Our History
Founded in 2007 by individuals committed to making a lasting difference, FAHU has evolved from supporting diverse development initiatives to specializing in innovative savings group projects.

Key Milestones
From our founding vision to our current approach, these milestones highlight our ongoing efforts to support savings group innovation and community-driven financial solutions.
2007
The FAHU Foundation was established in 2007 by members of the Kähler family who shared a vision to make a positive and continuous difference in the world.
FAHU visits project by CARE in Nepal
Decision to focus on Microfinance and particularly Savings Groups, entrepreneurship and agriculture.
2008
Main focus of extablishing a portfolio of projects within the scope of the Foundations' strategy.
2009
The board focused on its administrative procedures and systems.
2010
Most members of the board of FAHU Foundation received training in the VSLA Savings Group methodology by Hugh Allan facilitated by Danish Forum for Microfinance
2011
FAHU visits project by CARE in Nepal
FAHU visits project of WENIPS in Uganda
2012
Review of the strategy of the FAHU Foundation.
FAHU visits project by DanChurchAid in Malawi.
2013
FAHU visits project by ADDA in Cambodia.
Updating and renewing the strategy of the FAHU Foundation.
2014
FAHU visit project by ADDA in Cambodia.
2015
FAHU continues to be active in Danish Forum for Microfinance developing the network with the sector in Denmark.
2018
FAHU visits the Strømme Linkage Research Project, and the SAVIX PhD project with University of Adger in Uganda.
FAHU visits a training event of the SAVIX community project in Rwanda. FAHU also participates in the global Savings Group Conference and Technology Fair in Rwanda after which FAHU decided to focus on the digitalization of Savings Groups.
FAHU participates and contributed to presentations at the European Microfinance Week in Luxenburg.
2019
The FAHU Foundation focused on identifying projects providing innovative evidence-based implementation in the field.
2020
Due to COVID-19, the year was having less activity and projects faced delays while still presenting plenty of topics to be handled.
FAHU visits the “Born Digital” project in Tanzania.
2021
Comprehensive process developing and updating the strategy, vision and mission of the Foundation.
2022
In July 2022, three members of the FAHU board visit Uganda to observe different types of Village Savings and Loans Associations with regard to potential projects for FAHU to support.
2024
FAHU visits several projects in Burundi, Rwanda, and Uganda.
